So Is Yours: Ann McBee

My novel, My Grandfather's an Immigrant, and So Is Yours will be out Tuesday, September 14, and the pre-sale is going on now! To commemorate the book's release, I'm sharing the "So Is Yours" interview series in which I share insights from other authors about their creative work as well as the role of family in their own stories.

Ann McBee was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She obtained her PhD in creative writing at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. She has published fiction and poetry in Ellipsis, Untamed Ink, The Pinch, and Citron Review among others. Her short story collection titled How Rabbit Went Down and Other Mishaps is available from Hoot 'n' Waddle press. She now teaches English at Des Moines Area Community College, and lives outside Des Moines, Iowa. The limited use of her hands due to Rheumatoid Arthritis does not prevent her from writing in the same way that living in heavy air pollution does not prevent one from breathing.

Ann was kind of enough to participate in an audio interview with me. Unfortunately, there were a few technical glitches over the course of the interview when I lost her audio, but most of the interview is intact, and I think you'll agree Ann has a lot of remarkable insights to share. The interview is embedded as YouTube video below (automatically generated closed captioning available for those interested). The conversation is also available as a podcast via the Stories of Stories podcast feed on iTunes and most other major podcast platforms.

You can read work from Ann's literary work in progress via Club Plum and check out the fan fiction discussed in our interview, Wheel of Westeros.
